The BUBIC ethos is based on the belief that each person is responsible for his or her feelings. We reject the blame culture as we believe that when we blame others or something outside ourselves, we fail to access our inner potential. At Bubic we use a change and transformation approach that enables individuals to lead happy and meaningful lives. Our drop in, mix and clean up approach is likened to the cleaning process of a washing machine. Service users drop in to Bubic where their needs are assessed and a package of peer support and mentoring is put in…

Bubic values and depends on the volunteers who offer their services to their community. Bubic provides training for all volunteers to ensure they have the confidence and skills to manage challenging groups and deal with challenging behaviour. Many of our volunteers are ex-drug users who understand the financial and emotional battles that users face and are therefore in a good position to help addicts come to terms with their addiction and to provide practical and emotional support during their clean up process. Our volunteer pool is strengthened by the addition of social care and psychology placement students.

Originated through the Young People’s Health Event in November 2008 the Reachout Youth Project aims to address many of the issues and concerns raised by young people in the community. The project involves engaging young people through new ways of working and particularly in their own territory such as streets, cafes and parks at times that are appropriate to young individuals. Through providing young people with knowledge we offer them the tools they can use to make positive lifestyle choices and improve their future prospects. Essentially the project will explore new ways of working by frontline agencies concerned with the…

Our peer support group sessions consist of open-access, topic-based discussion groups facilitated by a member of Bubic staff. The groups provide users with practical help and emotional support in a confidential and non-judgemental way. The groups enable people to talk about their addiction to people who are experiencing similar problems and difficulties. For many users attending a peer support group is the first step towards rehabilitation.
